Damián Baca will lead the Rhetoric Society of America Summer Institute Workshop: “Latin American & Latina/o Rhetoric. Boulder, CO June 2011. Sponsored by the Latin American Rhetoric Association/Asociación Latinoamericana de Retórica–US Chapter.

Workshop Description
This workshop will provide opportunities to exchange knowledge and experience on research related to Latin American and Latina/o rhetoric. We will examine Latin American and Latina/o responses to the basic assumptions engrained in the Western idea of rhetoric, its ties to colonial power, modernity, progress and development. Of equal importance, we will consider possibilities of non-eurocentered rhetorical theory and production in both the hemispheric North (including the North within the South) and the hemispheric South (including the South within the North).

Workshop Objectives
1) to promote the study of Latin American rhetoric flourishing as a consequence of developing communication technologies and the migrations associated with political, economic, and environmental forces, 2) to provide a mechanism for collaboration and communication among scholars working on such projects, and 3) to promote in particular the study of American Indigenous rhetorical practices and their historical and contemporary ties to Latino/a rhetoric.

Digitizing Project Now Available

Digitizing Project

We are proud to bring you the Capirotada Digitizing Project.

You can begin by perusing the Capirotada Index which lists titles and authors.

Each issue is shown on an individual page on this site. I have included an image of the first page of the issue and a hyperlink to a searchable PDF copy of the issue. Because of the size of these PDFs, some browsers may not open the file. You have to download the file to your computer so you can view it. I have been using Firefox and have not had issues viewing the files without having to download them.

I am also providing a zip file of all the scanned images of each issue as well as the original non-searchable PDF file. These files are quite large so they will be available in the coming months. The hyperlink on each page will go live once these files have been uploaded to our server.
